Love 'til it breaks your heart...

Many times, love is equated with a heart.

What does this mean? Is it because we simply assume love is a feeling, and feelings come from the heart?

The Bible teaches that love is much more than a feeling. Love is shown by our actions, by our genuine concern for others. Jesus was our best example. He gave his life to save ours, something that I cannot fully comprehend, but am eternally grateful for everyday my heart beats in my chest.

One of my favorite songs has a line in it, the title of this blog post. If we are in Christ, we must love the way he loved, right up until his heart broke on the cross.

How can we love with a broken heart? We allow God's love to take over for us in our weakness. When we become too selfish to fully love someone, or too guarded, it is our own weakness that limits us. However, one of my favorite Bible verses is 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. It clearly states that God's grace is sufficient in our weakness, that when we are weak, then we are strong.

We can love fully when we allow God to work in our weakness. All the way up until our hearts break, and then he helps us continue on.
