After raiders kill his father, Yosef becomes responsible for his family.  Not knowing what else to do, he takes a job as a shepherd for the temple in Jerusalem and cares for the sacrificial sheep in order to feed his family.

Yosef takes his little brother, Avi, on an adventure out into the wilderness with their flock.  As the short story unfolds, Avi learns what it means to be a good shepherd.  In doing so, he also discovers what it means to have hope in the true Good Shepherd.
