Hawea is a young man feeling unprepared to lead his people.  After a failed healing ceremony, he flees to the other side of his island to ask the gods why they didn't help him save a little girl's life.

After much deliberation, Hawea decides he must perform the tribe's most sacred ritual at the foot of the asking tree in order to serve his people and understand what will best honor the gods.   He asks his question in complete humility, only desiring one thing: the truth.
